Activision sued by Harmonix over royalties then withdrawn

Activision sued by Harmonix

On Monday Harmonix sued Activision in regards to unpaid royalties to the sweet tune of $14.5 million, for use of their technology in Guitar Hero III, Harmonix’s also said that they have not been in receipt of any cash for song downloads in-game ads or related products.

However, Harmonix withdrew the lawsuit on the Tuesday as their threat of a full blown legal battle was apparently more than enough to get Activision to the table for talks. Variety reports that Harmonix lawsuit was clearly intended to lay down a precedent for possible future iterations of the Guitar Hero series, presumably there are many sequels planned. Activision claims they have paid Harmonix sufficient royalties. So will this end up in the law courts, or will they come to an agreement? We’ll keep you posted.
