In Japan the ability to still play last-gen games is a high priority, such a priority that the discontinues 20GB and 60GB models have skyrocketed in value, as currently Japan has access to one system, the 40GB with no backward capability.20GB systems are currently selling at Y60,800 on Amazon Japan, approx $617, that’s approx twice the value of the 40GB.
The additional featured 60GB which give you WiFi and memory card reader is selling at Y74,800 which is about $723.Backwards compatibility isn’t that bad over in the States as 80GB versions are easily available, although they done offer great support for PS2 games they are a lot better than the 40GB. For example, the soon to be release Metal Gear Solid 4 bundle includes backwards compatibility with PS2 games.
