Two new Xbox 360 models rumoured to be in production
8Bit Joystick has reported that Microsoft is apparently working on two, yes that’s TWO new Xbox 360 motherboards, which will hopefully fight the persistent failure rate; in Redmond, 5th and 6th generation Xbox 360’s are in development under the codenames of Opus and Valhalla.Joystick, back in Oct 07 reported the knowledge of the 3rd gen Xbox 360 with the codename of Jasper which was being developed for release in Aug 08 and to replace the Falcon models.
The Opus or zombie Xbox 360 killer, incorporates a 90nm GPU with a 65nm CPU slapped onto a Falcon motherboard then shoved into a Xenon case so won’t have a HDMI port. Why the Opus you may ask? Well Microsoft’s ideal is to patch up the dead Xenon’s they have in stock, but due to the Opus’s refurbishment won’t be for retail but rather replacements during RRoD situations.
Next is the Valhalla, a very early stage motherboard, the 6th gen which will reportedly be the final configuration has a 65nm GPU and 65nm CPU both on a unified super chip. Apparently the Valhalla will only need a single cooling system thus should be more quiet and more reliable than its predecessors.
