So just why would the United States Air Force be wanting 300 PS3s? You reckon it could be for recreational purposes, or maybe some virtual combat training perhaps? Well actually none of those, what the USAF require 300 PS3s, 40GB consoles for is they want to conduct a “technology assessment of certain cell processors.”
The Air Force believes the PS3 is perfect for research because it is the only hardware available which utilises specific cell processor characteristics they need.
So all that speculation and conspiracy theories are well and truly unfounded….maybe!!But I wonder if the USAF realise that those 40GB PS3s don’t have 4 USB ports and memory stick slots as they are listed on the solicitation document. Maybe they do or maybe as it’s the USAF they will be getting an all new super-duper PS3 40GB model that no one has heard anything about! Well it could be true, the USAF does have some clout!
